Madden's Story

On August 6th, 2014, 8 month old Madden James Patrick  Mooney was at his baby-sitters house when he was put down for a nap on an adult bed, given a bottle and surrounded by pillows and blankets.  During his nap, he was unable to receive enough oxygen due to the unsafe sleep position that he was in and he suffocated. Emergency crews responded to the scene after his 10 year old sister called 911 and assisted with CPR. They were able to retrieve a heartbeat, but because Madden was without oxygen for so long, he was left brain dead.  Five hours later, his mother, Jenna, rocked him to sleep for the last time and he passed away in her arms.  Because of the quick thinking of his sister and the emercendyc response crews, his parents were able to spend a few more hours with their precious boy.

Heartbeats for Madden was started to equip parents and caregivers with the knowledge they need regarding safe sleep, CPR and emergency response situations.  We believe every infant, baby and child deserves to live out every single one of their heartbeats.

Heartbeats for Madden
